E-Scooter Buying Mistakes You'll Want To Avoid

Have you found an electric scooter for sale on another site?

There are three risks to avoid when buying a new e-scooter: fakes, stolen goods and illegal imports.

  • Fakes can be very unsafe and unreliable.
  • Stolen goods may be repossessed or intercepted, leaving you with nothing to show for your money.
  • Illegal imports won’t carry a UK warranty and may not adhere to UK safety standards. You may also be liable for unexpected import duty costs if your order is being shipped from abroad.

There are a lot of companies who import electric scooters illegitimately. At Pure Scooters, we guarantee that every product we sell is genuine, sourced directly from the manufacturer and is approved for sale in the UK.

Before you purchase, we recommend a few simple checks:

  1. Is the retailer you’re buying from adding VAT to your purchase? If not, it's likely they're selling stock not approved for sale in the UK. Check for a VAT number displayed on the bottom of every page on the retailer’s website.

  2. Is the retailer selling UK stock? Some websites state ‘UK stock’ even when they’re selling stock imported from elsewhere. If you're looking to buy a Xiaomi, ask whether the retailer’s stock has been bought from Ingram Micro, the only official UK importer of Xiaomi Electric Scooters.

  3. Do they offer a UK warranty? This is essential because you may otherwise have to send your scooter abroad for return or repair should anything go wrong. This is often charged at your own expense and with little help from the retailer.

  4. Do they have physical UK office premises? Does their website look professional? Also check their wider online presence for example, across social media channels.

  5. Check third party reviews. A strong Trustpilot rating is a simple way to check credibility and other customer’s experiences.

  6. Does the scooter and its box carry a CE mark? This will be clearly displayed on a sticker on the outside of the box and on a sticker placed on the scooter itself. If the box and scooter don’t have a CE mark, it means the scooter hasn’t been checked to ensure it meets EU safety, health or environmental requirements. It also means the scooter won’t have a UK warranty.
